Happy New Ears

during the 2020/21 Season
This season, the Happy New Ears concert series begins with a homage to the Canadian composer Claude Vivier, who was murdered in 1983 at the age of only 34. With soprano Sarah Maria Sun, his work ›Lettura di Dante‹ (1974) will be performed, of which Vivier said that it aimed for »a notion of an unattainable world in a life that is dominated completely by money and power. A life full of loneliness.« The concert will be moderated by Stefan Drees and conducted by Dirk Kaftan. The remaining concerts of the Happy New Ears series will be dedicated to the Danish composer Simon Steen-Andersen, who also curates a concert with the motto ›Polish Youth‹ and to the South Korean composer Unsuk Chin.
