Wolfgang Rihm

Focus of the 2nd Subscription Concert

Wolfgang Rihm has composed more than 30 works for soloist and orchestra/ensemble, developing a wealth of constellations of fascinating interplay between solo and tutti. One of these works is ›Sound As Will‹, a brilliant piece spotlighting the trumpet and all its possibilities. The soloist at the Subscription Concert on December 11 (Alte Oper Frankfurt, 8 pm) is Sava Stoianov. Rihm’s vocal work ›Vigilia‹ refers to the tradition of the Liturgy of the Hours observed in monasteries, one of whose liturgical functions was to hold a vigil before high holidays. Here, the seven ›Passionstexte‹ Rihm wrote between 2001 and 2006 for the vocal ensemble Singer Pur are gathered into a whole and complemented by instrumental interludes. Jonathan Stockhammer conducts.
