Ensemble Modern in Mexico

Workshops and Concerts

Between 28 September and 4 October 2026, Ensemble Modern will travel to Mexico. As part of Festival CulturaUNAM in Mexico City and the International Cervantino Festival (FIC) in Guanajuato, it will present workshops and concerts. This guest appearance offers a valuable opportunity to strengthen international dialogue between European and Latin American artists. Ensemble Modern will therefore present several workshops for instrumentalists at UNAM and the FIC, fostering artistic exchange and providing insights into contemporary performance techniques and contemporary music repertoire. In addition, the ensemble will present works by internationally renowned composers in concerts reflecting the diversity of contemporary music: Chaya Czernowin, Georg Friedrich Haas, Ted Hearne, Clara Iannotta, Jennifer Walshe, Vito Žuraj and Diana Syrse. Their works explore expanded sonic spaces beyond traditional tonality, incorporating noise, electronics, spatial sound and unconventional playing techniques. Musical direction will be by the Chinese conductor Xizi Wang, a former fellow of the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA).
