Pascal Dusapin’s ›Passion‹

at the Salzburg Festival

In his opera ›Passion‹, Pascal Dusapin dedicates himself to the great human emotions. Inspired by ›L’Orfeo‹ and other works by Claudio Monteverdi, the chamber opera’s ten loosely connected scenes explore feelings such as fear, joy, pain and desire. The characters are merely namedHeandShe, lending the work a timeless and universal dimension. After its 2008 world premiere at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the chamber opera will now be performed in concert at the Salzburg Festival – by Sarah Aristidou, Georg Nigl, Schola Heidelberg and Ensemble Modern under the baton of Franck Ollu. In 2020, the work was also released on the label Ensemble Modern Media, a coproduction with the radio station hr2-kultur and IRCAM.
