Helmut Lachenmann

On the occasion of his 90[sup]th[/sup]birthday on November 27, 2025, Ensemble Modern dedicates several concerts to the composer Helmut Lachenmann. The September kick-off in Berlin is now followed by appearances in Cologne (Nov. 19), Frankfurt am Main (Nov. 26) and Hamburg (Nov. 29). The featured works are Helmut Lachenmann‘s ›Concertini‹ and ›Graffiti‹ by Unsuk Chin. Ensemble Modern joins the IEMA Ensemble 2024/25 in an intergenerational orchestra conducted by Sylvain Cambreling. This trailer offers some insights into the rehearsal process with Helmut Lachenmann. Our social media and YouTube channels also feature congratulatory messages from the musicians. On Dec. 2, Helmut Lachenmann is the focus of a ›Happy New Ears‹ concert at the Frankfurt Opera, during which his work ›Mouvement (– vor der Erstarrung)‹ will be performed.
