Ensemble Modern as a »Big Band«

with Alex Paxton and Enno Poppe

Enno Poppe and Alex Paxton dedicate their new works ›Körper‹ and ›Don’t Leave Me Behind‹ to the sonic reinvention of the big band, using Ensemble Modern as a playground for the deconstruction and transformation of a venerable ensemble form. They employ experimental playing techniques, electronic elements and the creative potential of the musicians themselves. The works will be heard at the Philharmonie in Essen on Nov. 9 and at the Muziekgewbouw aan’t IJ in Amsterdam on Nov. 13 under Enno Poppe’s baton. Paxton’s piece will also be performed at the Alte Oper Frankfurt on Nov. 4. To learn more about Alex Paxton and his approach to composing, click on the Trailer below.
