New CD release from WERGO

Enno Poppe, with whom Ensemble Modern shares decades of friendship and joint projects, composed ›Körper‹ for Ensemble Modern in 2021. In this work, he upended common notions about traditional big bands, coaxing all kinds of unexpected sounds from the Ensemble Modern members. »A big band is an instrument reminiscent of a golden era and corduroy pants. The truth is that its sonic potential is not only immense, but also hardly ever fully taken advantage of, because the idiom of big band music has been construed far too narrowly,« says Enno Poppe. His piece is about the potential the big band offers as a »resounding body«, i.e. colours as well as dynamic and rhythmic possibilities. Now the work has been released on WERGO.
