Open Ears – Silent Film with Live Music

›Menschen am Sonntag‹

The trombonist and composer Uwe Dierksen has written a new film score for Billy Wilder’s great silent film classic ›Menschen am Sonntag‹. This 1930 film depicts the life of young people in the metropolis of Berlin in a semi-documentary collage of acted scenes and social reportage. The film was restored in 2014 by the Deutsche Kinemathek in cooperation with the EYE Filminstituut Nederland. Uwe Dierksen was commissioned by the Murnau Society in Bielefeld to write a new score for ensemble. On December 4, a live performance of this music will accompany a screening of the film at an open dress rehearsal, part of the Open Ears series of the Friends of Ensemble Modern – and Uwe Dierksen will give an introduction. On December 7, the film will be screened with live music at the Caligari Filmbühne.
