ECLAT Festival neue Musik

Ensemble Modern Guest Appearance

From February 1 to 5, 2023 the ECLAT Festival of New Music in Stuttgart features concerts, staged works, installations, immersive, hybrid and multi-perspective projects reflecting positions of artistic creativity today. Ensemble Modern opens ECLAT on February 1 at 7 pm with a multi-faceted concert conducted by Enno Poppe. The event begins with ›iLolli-Pop‹ by the British composer and trombone player Alex Paxton, written for the International Composition Seminar of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. Ensemble Modern gave its world premiere as part of the 2020 cresc… Biennial for Current Music Frankfurt Rhine Main. Furthermore, Milica Djordjević’s cycle ›Transfixed‹ is on the programme. The composer, who was born in Serbia and lives in Cologne, has let herself be guided by memory structures for her four miniatures, aiming to create music which »shakes the listeners. The most important thing«, she says, »is that no one remains indifferent.« Arnulf Herrmann’s ›Hard Boiled Variations – 15 1 Cycles‹ go from zero to one hundred in no time: a rapid acceleration, loss of control being the intended goal. At 10 pm, a work by the Chinese composer Huihui Cheng will have its world premiere. Her focus is on the theatrical expansion of music. In her new work, ›Imaginary strings‹, she once again sends musicians moving through space in a pre-determined choreography, creating the impression of sound in perpetual motion, »like waves tracing lines, dancing in circles or colliding«, says the composer.
