In Celebration of Wolfgang Rihm’s 70th Birthday

Wolfgang Rihm celebrated his 70th birthday this year. Ensemble Modern marks this occasion in October 2022 by performing two of his works under Enno Poppe’s baton at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, and again in January 2023 at the Philharmonie in Cologne: ›Abschiedsstücke. Gedichte von Wolf Wondratschek‹ as well as his ›Concerto Séraphin‹. At the same time, Ensemble Modern Media will release the album ›Jagden und Formen (Zustand 2008)‹, a live recording conducted by Sir George Benjamin at the 2020 Musikfest Berlin. This large-scale symphonic work was composed between 1995 and 2001 and was given its world premiere by Ensemble Modern. In its ›Zustand 2008‹ (2008 state), this »work in progress« has reached its final form, having grown steadily over many years.
