Witten Days of New Chamber Music

In Witten on May 6, Ensemble Modern gives the world premiere of Georges Aperghis’ ensemble work ›Hopse‹. Inspired by the ancient game of hopscotch – also known as ›Hopse‹ in German – Aperghis has transformed several aspects of this dexterity game into sound, translating rules, variants and floorplans of the game into structures and sounds. On the same evening, the world premiere of Arnulf Herrmann’s ›Hard Boiled Variations‹ will be presented, in cooperation with the dance company CocoonDance and the choreographer Rafaële Giovanola. Before this, the 2021/22 IEMA Ensemble presents a Newcomer Concert featuring five world premieres by young composers. On May 7, Ensemble Modern plays Milica Djordjević’s ›transfixed‹ and ›transfixed'‹ as part of the concert ›Dialogue Portrait‹.
