Winners of Encouragement Awards

The coveted distinctions awarded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation include not only the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, but also its Encouragement Awards for Young Composers. In 2020 these went to the Washington-born composer Catherine Lamb, the Italian Francesca Verunelli and the Frenchman Samir Amarouch; in 2021 to the Croation Mirela Ivičević, to Malte Giesen from Tübingen, Germany, and Yair Klartag from Israel. In two concerts in the musica viva series presented by the Bavarian Radio and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation (Oct. 1), Ensemble Modern performs works by the six prize winners under the baton of David Niemann. The concerts will be live-streamed and will be available on demand until November 1, 2021. The next day (Oct. 2) some of the works will also be performed during the subscription concert at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.
