Checkpoint III: Jazz@EnsembleModern

The third evening in the “Checkpoint” series on April 10 (German Ensemble Academy, 8 pm), entitled “Jazz@EnsembleModern”, takes place in cooperation with the Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt and as part of the festival Musikmesse. It is situated at the interface of New Music and experimental, contemporary jazz. The three renowned jazz musicians John Schröder (piano, guitar), Hayden Chisholm (saxophone) and Sebastian Gramm (double bass) meet Ensemble Modern. The result will not be a collage of swinging mainstream-jazz and loud, atonal contemporary music – instead, the musicians search jointly for new paths between improvised and notated music, given the backdrop of their individual musical experience.
