A Portrait of Jörg Widmann

Happy New Ears Concert

A native of Munich, Jörg Widmann had his first composition lessons at the age of eleven, going on to study with Hans-Werner Henze, Heiner Goebbels and Wolfgang Rihm. He also studied clarinet at the Music Academy in his hometown and at the Juilliard School. He is active on the music scene as an instrumentalist and composer. Jörg Widmann and Ensemble Modern have enjoyed many years of collaboration, most recently over “into Dubai”. During the Happy New Ears concert on March 23 (Frankfurt Opera, 8 pm) he will discuss his work with Managing Director Christian Fausch. His “Liebeslied”, “Freie Stücke für Ensemble” and the highly virtuosic “Air” for French horn solo, with Saar Berger as the soloist, will be performed.
