World Premiere: Specter of the Gardenia

at steirischen herbst in Graz

›Specter of the Gardenia oder der Tag wird kommen‹ is an intriguing interplay between Johannes Maria Staud’s music and Josef Winkler’s texts. The young director Sofia Simitzis transports the artistic montage into space, into a kind of image or world machine. With this installation-cum-concert performance, Ensemble Modern opens the festival ›steirischer herbst‹ under the baton of Emilio Pomàrico on September 25 and 26. Staud’s purely instrumental ensemble work ›Auf die Stimme der weißen Kreide (Specter I-III)‹ was also inspired by Winkler’s text. It forms the evening’s ›centrepiece‹, so to speak, and will have its world premiere at the Festival Musica in Strasbourg on September 19.
