Black on WhiteOn June 21 Ensemble Modern makes a guest appearance in Jerusalem, performing Heiner Goebbels’ successful piece “Black on White”. Here, the musicians also take to the stage as actors: tennis balls are bounced off a bass drum, a kettle whistles in accompaniment to a complex flute melody. A concert in Jerusalem on June 24 introduces new compositions by the Israeli composers Yuval Shaked and Dan Yuhas, counterbalancing them with György Ligeti’s highly virtuosic “Chamber Concert for 13 Instruments” and Helmut Lachenmann’s “...zwei Gefühle”, in which the composer himself takes the role of the narrator.
