“Music Box” in Hamburg

“Machine music” is the focus of the concert “Music Box” on May 30 (at 8 pm) in Hamburg, part of the series “NDR das neue werk”. Outstanding past examples from the realm of “machine music” were created by Edgard Varèse, George Antheil or György Ligeti; today, Ondrej Adamék and Louis Andriessen are among those exploring this subject. “Music Box”, however, aims not only to open ears, but also eyes. After all, many new works dominated by mechanical and technological elements also deal with the question of how the eye influences acoustic perception – one example is Simon Steen-Andersen’s “Black Music Box”, a highly surprising live video and percussion piece.
