Music – FilmImage - Music is the theme of the seventh edition of the International Composition Seminar of the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA), which takes place under the leadership of Ensemble Modern and in cooperation with the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg.

During recent years, this seminar with its multi-part concept has launched many a composer’s international career; on the European level it is unique. In addition, this seventh edition offers the special opportunity to combine music with film images:

In an initial try-out phase lasting several days, the participants of the Composition Seminar meet select graduates of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg and the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and Ludwigsburg, where an extensive round of introductions and presentations is followed by a joint process of exchange. The goal of this initiation phase is to pair up project teams – each consisting of one composer and one or several graduates of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg – with the ideas that emerge in the course of this project phase, resulting in an overall plan to develop and produce a work combining music and film.

The try-out phase is followed by a development and production phase of about 9 months, structured by workshops and intensive courses in Frankfurt and Ludwigsburg on dates to be coordinated with the participants. During this phase, the teams are accompanied by a team of several consultants.

In November 2015, the teams will meet for their final rehearsal phase with Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, where the resulting works will be prepared for performance through intense rehearsals. There will be sufficient time for exchange and discussion.

The final concert of the 2015 International Composition Seminar forms an integral part of the festival cresc... Biennial for Modern Music Frankfurt RheinMain, taking place in Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt and Wiesbaden between November 26 and 29, 2015.
