“divided – united. Music on both sides of the Wall”

Part III of the series “divided – united. Music on both sides of the Wall” on October 7 at the Frankfurt Opera (8 pm) deals with the final period of the GDR. In conversation with Heike Hoffmann, the two composers Nicolaus Richter de Vroe and Steffen Schleiermacher discuss their studies with Friedrich Goldmann and the conditions of “actually existing socialism” under which they grew up. In addition to works by the two, the programme features a late world premiere of “Nonett 89” from the estate of Reiner Bredemeyer. During the 1950s Bredemeyer had moved to East Berlin, disappointed by the restorative tendencies in the Federal Republic, but he only played a marginal role as a theatre musician in the GDR’s musical life. Titus Engel conducts.
