Happy New Ears Concert
for John Cage’s 100th birthdayJohn Cage has changed thinking about music profoundly. To mark his 100th birthday the Ensemble Modern has dedicated its Happy New Ears concert on 27 November to his work. The programme will include the music performance „Water Music“ and Cage’s „Sixteen Dances“, in which the composer – for the first time – ascertained the order of all notes and cords through chance methods. „Variation VIII“, a graphically notated piece, was written almost 30 years later and is shaped by complete indetermination and the hand of the performer. hr2 radio editor Stefan Fricke and pianist Hermann Kretzschmar will be leading through the evening.
