Happy New Ears

The upcoming ›Happy New Ears‹ concerts focus on two female composers. On April 8, Ensemble Modern presents works by the German-Dutch composer Iris ter Schiphorst, conducted by Alexander Sinan Binder and presented by EM’s oboist Christian Hommel. For ›Hyper-Dub‹, the composer collaborates with the musician and actor Dirk von Lowtzow (Tocotronic). The chamber piece ›… und Pommernland ist abgebrannt‹ is based on a German children’s song from the 17th century. On May 13, Nicolò Foron conducts ›shouting forever into the receiver‹ and ›Even sweetness can scratch the throat‹ by the British composer Hannah Kendall. Her works often deal with subjects such as the transatlantic slave trade and colonialism. The concert will be presented by the EM double bass player Paul Cannon.
