Frankfurt City Peal of Bells at Whitsun

On Whitsun Saturday, the »Großes Frankfurter Stadtgeläute«, or Great Peal of Bells of the City of Frankfurt, will ring out from 4:30 to 5 pm, entitled ›supra urbem‹, a new version by the Ensemble Modern members Hermann Kretzschmar and Rainer Römer. Listeners are invited to experience this traditional bell-ringing concert from a new perspective during its premiere. In the new version, the bells are initially introduced one by one – from the highest to the lowest notes. This makes it possible to identify the timbre and characteristics of each bell. After about 15 minutes, the bells unite in their familiar overall sound. In the future, the Ensemble Modern version will be heard every Saturday before Whitsunday.
