Johannes Kalitzke in Portrait

The next Happy New Ears concert at the HfMDK focuses on the composer and conductor Johannes Kalitzke. Ensemble Modern most recently gave the world premiere of his opera ›Kapitän Nemos Bibliothek‹ at the 2022 Schwetzingen Festival. Kalitzke’s catalogue of works boasts numerous stage works, but also film scores. Created in 2020, however, the work ›Werckmeister Harmonies‹ transposes the action of the eponymous film of 2000 (director: Béla Tarr) into music, obviating the need for the actual film. In a conversation with the film journalist Nina Goslar, the composer discusses this work.
