Looking Forward to Summer

The next events

Current developments have given us confidence that cultural life will soon return to normal and the events on our densely-packed concert calendar for the second half of 2021 can take place as planned.

Recently returned from a performance at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, where Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s ›L'Apocalypse Arabe‹ was performed, the Ensemble Modern musicians travel to the European Centre of the Arts Hellerau from July 8 to 11, 2021 to collaborate with the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and Jan Bang on ›With These Hands‹. On July 18, 2021 Ensemble Modern and Michael Quast’s Volksbühne encounter the world-famous ›Struwwelpeter‹ stories by Heinrich Hoffmann. This production opens the temporary open-air theatre ›Sommerbau‹ inaugurated by Künstlerhaus Mousonturm and Frankfurt LAB. Another opening concert follows on July 31, 2021 at the 50th Darmstadt Summer Courses, where Ensemble Modern performs works by Malin Bång, Alvin Singleton, Brigitta Muntendorf and Olga Neuwirth. August takes the Ensemble to the Ruhrtriennale, where Olga Neuwirth's ›Bählamms Fest‹ (libretto: Elfriede Jelinek) is performed (August 15 to 22, 2021). In the extended formation of the Ensemble Modern Orchestra, August 30, 2021 sees the musicians perform the world premiere of Heiner Goebbels’ evening-length orchestral piece ›A House of Call. My Imaginary Notebook‹ at the Musikfest Berlin, a work then performed in swift succession in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Munich. On September 1, 2021 the world premiere of Catherine Milliken's ›Night Shift‹ also takes place in Berlin, part of the project ›CONNECT – The Audience as Artist‹.

The numerous projects awaiting you in the coming months are featured on our website and in our current magazine, which you can download here for online reading. We are looking forward tremendously to our next encounters and wish you a great summer.

Yours, Ensemble Modern
