KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen

Ensemble Modern performs live online

Unfortunately, the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen will not be able to go forward as originally planned. However, the festival is moving some of its events to the digital sphere and extending the festival by a week, as the chances of live events on stage seem to be increasing with time. The festival opens with a comprehensive online programme. Ensemble Modern performs live from Frankfurt with jazz pianist Florian Weber on May 14, 2021 (8 pm) as part of the KunstFestSpiele. Inspired by the game of “coalition chess” invented by Arnold Schoenberg in the 1920s, Weber and Ensemble Modern have developed an extraordinary concert format. On May 15, 2021 (8 pm) a video production of Shiva Feshareki’s “Opus Infinity” will be streamed, a performance pre-recorded at the Frankfurt LAB. Shiva Feshareki, an outstanding representative of the younger generation of creative turntable artists, combines her particularly body- and improvisation-based turntablism with electronically amplified, precisely projected sounds created by Ensemble Modern in her composition “Opus Infinity”. Both streams will be available as Video On Demand until June 6, 2021.

The 11-day festival of live performances in the presence of an audience is to begin on May 27, 2021 with the world premiere “Liberté d’Action” by the composer, director and performer Heiner Goebbels. The staged concert featuring actor David Bennent and two Ensemble Modern pianists had originally been scheduled for the festival’s opening concert on May 13, 2021.
