Concerts Under the Roof

Checkpoint with Gebrüder Teichmann

A public musical research laboratory located at the headquarters of Ensemble Modern on Frankfurt’s Schwedlerstraße – this is the idea behind the concert series ›Checkpoint‹, started in 2015. In the workshop concerts Under the Roof, members of Ensemble Modern break out new repertoire and try out cross-genre forms of musical collaboration. Thus, the musicians have already appeared with internationally renowned jazz musicians, crossing the boundaries between the traditionally separate worlds of contemporary music and experimental jazz. The next ›Checkpoint‹ on December 15, 2017 focuses on electronic dance music, which has developed into an extraordinarily inventive musical field of experimentation – which has, however, been largely ignored by New Music so far. In the brothers Hannes and Andi Teichmann, Ensemble Modern has invited two of the most innovative minds on Berlin’s techno scene in order to explore the possibilities of cross-genre dialogue. In keeping with the series’ experimental mission, the goal is to create a real, mutual exchange regarding the different artistic methods and musical approaches of contemporary music and club music. Instrumental sounds will not only serve as input for classical live sampling, but will also interfere with the live-electronic events via interactive electronic »extensions«.
