On June 22, Ensemble Modern opens the Frankfurt Poetry Festival with a reading-cum-concert at the Dominikanerkloster. The event was conceived by the composer Carola Bauckholt and the poet Jan Wagner. Both find unusual sounds and poetic qualities in common, everyday objects: thus, Carola Bauckholt teases sounds from toasters, water faucets and zinc bathtubs in her works, casually undoing the hierarchy of daily life and art. In many of his poems, Jan Wagner also creates meaningful epiphanies regarding all the many things surrounding us, whether cups, teabags or hairdryers.
