The sculpture ›Le Spectre du Gardenia / The Specter of the Gardenia‹ by the Surrealist Marcel Jean inspired the Austrian writer Josef Winkler to create an idiosyncratic, surrealist monologue; the composer Johannes Maria Staud has transformed its emotional messages into music. The concert-cum-performance ›Specter of the Gardenia oder der Tag wird kommen‹ offers an intriguing interplay between music and text. On May 2 a concert version of the work has its German premiere at the Alte Oper Frankfurt; Klaus Haderer is the narrator, Emilio Pomàrico conducts.
