40 Years: Junge Deutsche Philharmonie

Ensemble Modern plays Conlon Nancarrow at the Ceremony

Commemorating the 40th anniversary of its founding, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie presents a ceremony at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt at October, 13 (starting at 6:30 pm). Apart from 200 active and former members, there will be performances by Ensemble Modern and the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, ensembles that grew out of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. Ensemble Modern presents Conlon Nancarrow’s “Study for Player Piano No. 7”, a polyphonic work whose original version for mechanical piano consciously transcends the boundaries of human playability, due to its extreme tempo. Ivar Mikhashoff’s transcriptions make the instrumental performance of this “high-velocity music” possible. The evening is moderated by the Frankfurt-based universal artist Michael Quast.
