Members of the Ensemble Modern
Born in Tokyo, Rumi Ogawa first studied percussion under Michiko Takahashi at the Tokyo Geijutsu University (the State Academy for Music and Art). Since 1978 she has lived in Germany, where she completed additional studies under Bernhard Wulff at the Music Academy in Freiburg. Even while studying, she gathered a broad range of experience in classical and modern music – mainly playing with the Basel Radio Orchestra and the Institute for New Music Freiburg. Since becoming a member of the Ensemble Modern in 1981, she has worked continuously on building and expanding the group. Furthermore she has made guest appearances with many different orchestras and ensembles, both in Germany and abroad, and often performs as a soloist. Further details on Rumi Ogawa can be found in the book ›Hier spielt die Musik‹, published by AvivA.
