The video opera The Cave

Following numerous performances of Three Tales the Ensemble Modern will now, for the first time, also perform Steve Reichs and Beryl Korots first collaborative work The Cave. The video opera combines music and videomaterial of a documentary character: On five large video screens picture sequences are multiplied, simultaneously superimposed and intertwined by means of time-shift. Through videotaped interviews with Israelis, Palestinians and Americans The Cave recalls the 4000-year-old Biblical story of Abraham, his wives Sarah and Hagar and his sons Ismael and Isaac. This autumn will see the first performances of the video operas renewed version in Strasbourg (23 September) and Dresden (12 October).
