Alte Oper Frankfurt

A subscription series by the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt's Alte Oper. You may well ask how the two fit together. Modern music by composers in a concert hall dedicated to the "True, beautiful and good", more in line with the classical notion of culture, it would seem. And yet it is precisely this close interplay between tradition and the modern that is one of the hallmarks of the city of Frankfurt. The Ensemble Modern and Alte Oper is not a contradiction in terms, then? These subscription series have been held in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt since 1985. Since the year 2000 there has also been an introductory series in which composers, conductors and musicologists try to enhance the audience's understanding of the concert programme.
