NaturPassagen

Since the beginning of the 2009/10 academic year, the ALTANA Kulturstiftung, the Ensemble Modern, The Forsythe Company and the Bettina School, a grammar school in Frankfurt, have been running an ambitious cultural project. Once a week on the »cultural day«, 135 pupils in Year 7 at the Bettina School embark on an artistic expedition through nature as part of the project »NaturPassagen«. They start out with perceptions and experiences with nature and taken from nature. In collaboration with professional musicians, visual artists, authors and dancers, the pupils work on various aspects of the topic »NaturPassagen« in the different artistic disciplines. All the phases of the project build on insights and skills attained step by step which then become interlinked. This interdisciplinary cooperation will culminate in performances of music and dance in June 2010 in the Frankfurt LAB in Schmidtstrasse amidst an installation designed by the pupils themselves.

The goal of this intensive »cultural year« is to give young people unusual and exceptional access to the individual disciplines of music, visual art, literature and dance and also to make them consciously aware of the variety of cultural activities on offer in the Rhine-Main area. The main aim is to arouse an interest in culture among young people and to stimulate them to be creative. The project forms an intensive and lasting contribution to the aesthetic education of the pupils, helping them to develop their personalities.
