The Ensemble Modern opens its 2011/12 season in the Alte Oper Frankfurt on 7 September 2011 with a subscription series concert at the Auftakt Festival. This year the festivals main focus will be on the composer George Benjamin. Conducted by the composer himself, Ensemble Modern will deliver a concert performance of his lyric tale Into the Little Hill, a contemporary retelling of the medieval Pied Piper of Hamelin tale as a gloomy political allegory. Anu Komsi (soprano) and Hilary Summers (alto) will sing the vocal parts which Benjamin composed especially for them. Also part of the programme is Benjamins Upon silence as well as the compositions On love II and ice by former Benjamin students Saed Haddad and Dai Fujikura. The concert will be repeated on 9 September 2011 in Hall in Tirol during the Klangspuren Festival Schwaz, whose composer in residence 2011 George Benjamin is.
